Third race of the year, on another cold Sunday morning, like -1C, but not so windy. The start at 9:00 was welcome. Late start, some more sun !
Left the house at 8:35, took a taxi to 62th street. Should have gone up to 72th to optimize but we learn from our trials. A little warning to jog to the departure line. We entered the back of the corrals at 7000-7999. The ladys pushed me out and asked me to run like a champion !
So I pushed up to the 5000-5999 corral which was full of 6~~~ 😉
After a short waiting time, we were off ! As usual, tons of slow runners with low # were blocking the road. First time runners are giving a wishful estimate and get good placement in the corrals. Honor system which is not working very well. Or every body decided to jog today !
First mile was down to the boat house, then up cat hill behind the Met, 8:47. The down to Engineer gate and the baseball fileds, 8:40.
After mile 2 , we had to go left for the Seattle Seahawks or right for the New England Patriots. As the Seahawks punter went to Middlebury College, I opted for the left lane !
The uphill on the mile 3 is always hard. Mile 3, 9:45.
Then the down hill is OK, in 9:isn
Total : 4 miles, 36:17 with a pace of 9:05. Finished 2433/5051th, 1582/2577th man and 188 in my age group. My best pace so far, except for the 5th Avenue Mile. First time in the first half?!
I caught up lots of 5~~~ and some 4~~~. When I reached 3+ miles, I saw a lady with the 65 bib, jogging back up hill. She finished, rested and then came back to encourage the runners. And I was huffing and puffing on mile 3. A lot more training to do 😉
Quite happy with my time. Room to improve still !
